Privacy Policy

The short version: the NowNow app has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your tasks, schedules and history stay on your Mac. We don't sell or share personal data.

Who we are

NowNow is a task completion assistant for macOS, published by DayScale Pty Ltd (ACN 703 137 384), Level 1, 4 Crown Street, Newcastle NSW 2300, Australia ("we", "us"). We are responsible for the information described in this policy.

We voluntarily handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. NowNow is used around the world, and we aim to treat everyone's information with the same care, whatever privacy law applies where you live.

What we collect

No account, no profile

NowNow has no sign-up and no user accounts. The app does not collect your name or email address.

Your content stays on your Mac

Everything you put into NowNow (tasks, schedules, history and preferences), along with your local subscription status, is stored only on your Mac. It is not synced to iCloud or any other cloud service, and it is not sent to us.

No analytics or tracking in the app

The NowNow app contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party SDKs that collect data. NowNow does not use push notifications.

Downloading content packs

The app contacts our server (worker.nownow-app.com, hosted on Cloudflare) only to download content packs (images and sounds) for subscribers. To prove you have an active subscription, the app sends Apple's signed record of your subscription transaction. Our server checks that record with Apple and returns a download link that expires after 5 minutes. No device identifiers are sent.

Our server keeps no user records. It keeps only:

  • temporary, hashed rate-limiting counters, kept for about 1 hour and not linked to your identity, to protect the service from abuse; and
  • the IDs of notifications Apple sends us about subscriptions, kept for about 25 hours so each one is processed only once.

Like any web service, our hosting provider, Cloudflare, processes IP addresses in its request logs, which are kept for a short period.

Purchases

Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment card details.

Microphone and speech recognition

NowNow uses the microphone and speech recognition only when you choose hold-to-dictate. Where your Mac supports it, audio is transcribed on your device. Otherwise it is transcribed by Apple's speech recognition service, under Apple's privacy policy. We don't receive or store your audio or transcripts.

Accessibility permission

If you grant NowNow the macOS Accessibility permission, it is used only to find where the text cursor is on screen. NowNow does not read or transmit your screen content.

How we use information

We use the limited information described above only to:

  • confirm that you have an active subscription before giving you a content pack download link;
  • protect our server from abuse with rate limiting; and
  • process Apple's subscription notifications once each.

We do not sell or share personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third parties

We rely on these service providers:

  • Apple handles purchases and subscriptions, and provides speech recognition when on-device transcription isn't available. Apple's privacy policy applies to your purchases and to its speech recognition service.
  • Cloudflare hosts our server and delivers content packs. It processes IP addresses in its request logs as described above.
  • Cloudflare also stores launch waitlist email addresses and will send the launch email through Cloudflare Email Service.
  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) measures how this website is used. It is not part of the NowNow app.

How long we keep information

  • Your content on your Mac: stays there until you delete it. Deleting NowNow's data removes it.
  • Content pack download links: expire after 5 minutes.
  • Rate-limiting counters: about 1 hour.
  • Apple notification IDs: about 25 hours.
  • Cloudflare request logs: a short period, set by Cloudflare.
  • Waitlist email addresses: until the launch notification is sent, then deleted.

Launch waitlist

Before NowNow is released, you can ask us to email you when it launches, using the "Get notified" form on this website. The waitlist is separate from the app and entirely optional.

What we collect

Only your email address. The form doesn't ask for your name, and we don't store your IP address, device details or sign-up time with your address.

How we use it

We use your email address once, to send you one email when NowNow launches. That email will be sent with Cloudflare Email Service, so Cloudflare processes your address to deliver it. We won't add it to a mailing list, send you anything else, or share it with anyone else or sell it.

When we delete it

We delete waitlist email addresses once the launch notification is sent. If you change your mind before then, email privacy@nownow-app.com and we'll remove your address from the waitlist straight away.

Protecting the form from abuse

To keep out bots and spam sign-ups, the form uses Cloudflare Turnstile, which loads only when you open the form and checks your browser for signs of automation. Cloudflare runs that check under its Turnstile privacy addendum. Our server also limits how many sign-ups can come from one IP address in a minute. Those short-lived counters are held by Cloudflare's rate limiter, are not saved in our database and are not linked to your email address. As with the rest of our service, Cloudflare processes your IP address in its request logs for a short period.

This website

This website uses analytics to measure performance and detect issues. If you're in the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland, we ask you first, and you can decline.

Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you. The only personal data we hold on our servers is waitlist email addresses, which we delete once the launch notification is sent. Everything you put into NowNow stays on your Mac. To ask a question or make a request, email privacy@nownow-app.com.

If you have a complaint about how we've handled your information, please contact us first at support@nownow-app.com. If you're in Australia and still unhappy, you can then contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au. If you live elsewhere, you may be able to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

NowNow is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the European Union).
